Repeat Prescriptions

Repeat prescriptions are those medicines you receive on a regular basis, usually for a long-term condition, without having to go and see your GP every time you need them.

Patients need to order repeat prescriptions directly from Ashby Turn Primary Care Centre. You can no longer order repeat prescriptions through your pharmacy, an online pharmacy or other dispensing contractor.

You can do this:

  • Online via the link at the top of this page – all you have to do is register with us. You will need a unique username and password that can be obtained from the reception desk. You will need photographic identification.
  • Through the national NHS App – Download the NHS APP and find out more.
  • In person here at the Practice – Simply tick the medicines you need on the white, tear-off section of your prescription and drop it in to us.
  • By post (please enclose a stamped addressed envelope).

Collections

We require a minimum of 48 hours notice for repeat prescriptions and cannot accept prescription requests by telephone.

Please note: If you already order your repeat prescriptions from Ashby Turn Primary Care Centre, you’re not affected and don’t need to do anything.

If you collect your medicine from your local pharmacy, or have arrangements in place to have it delivered to your door then speak to your pharmacy to continue these arrangements.

If you receive your medication through a monitored dosage system, for example a dosette box or a blister pack, this change will not affect you.

Prescription Fees

Help with NHS costs

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

  • those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
  • those who are age exempt
  • those with certain medical conditions
  • More information is available at NHS Choices

NHS Charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £9.65
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £111.60
  • 3-month PPC: £31.25

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
