111 Advice

Winter is the busiest time for your local NHS, who want to give everyone the best care possible. If you need urgent medical help, call 111 or go online to 111.nhs.uk.
This will help to reduce the pressure on all NHS services, and you could be treated sooner than if you attended your local A&E.
In serious or life-threatening emergencies, you should still use 999. But in all other instances your first call should be 111.

Important information for patients currently on hospital waiting lists

Important information for patients currently on hospital waiting lists

The NHS has been working hard to address the backlogs built up during the COVID pandemic. As part of these plans, the NHS will be proactively contacting patients who have been waiting a long time for NHS funded treatment to remind them of their right to request to move to an alternative hospital where they may be seen quicker.

From Tuesday 31st October new digital portal called the Patient Initiated Digital Mutual Aid System (PIDMAS) will be introduced. Patients who have been waiting 40 weeks or more can use this portal to request an alternative choice of hospital.

Any patient who is eligible will receive either a SMS text message or a letter from their current hospital explaining how to request to choose a different hospital.

Please do not contact the practice regarding this process as we have no information regarding individual patients.

The hospital will contact you if you are eligible. Please do not contact them either.

Further information about alternative choice is available on hospital websites.

Strep A & Scarlet Fever

Information on Strep A

We understand parents are worried about Strep A at the moment given the devastating news of 8 recent deaths in the UK and the substantial media coverage surrounding this.

We have seen a rise in telephone calls regarding children who may have symptoms.
We hope this video helps in understanding the virus and the symptoms to look out for.

The UK Health Security Agency have issued new guidance to parents, with Group A Strep infections at a slightly higher than expected level for this time of year.
Group A Strep is a common bacteria, which causes a range of infections including Scarlet Fever. While infections are usually mild, it is important to stay alert.
Parents are advised to trust their judgement, and should speak to their GP or call 111 if their child is poorly and getting worse.
Strep A symptoms to be aware of can include:
your child is feeding or eating much less than normal
your child has had a dry nappy for 12 hours or more or shows other signs of dehydration
your baby is under 3 months and has a temperature of 38C, or is older than 3 months and has a temperature of 39C or higher
your baby feels hotter than usual when you touch their back or chest, or feels sweaty
your child is very tired or irritable
Always call 999 or go to A&E in an emergency. UKHSA have highlighted symptoms to keep an eye out for, including if your child:
Is having difficult breathing, such as grunting noises or their tummy sucking under their ribs
Pauses when they breathe
Skin, tongue or lips turning blue in colour
Is floppy and will not wake up, or stay awake

Access to patient records through the NHS App

From April 2022, patients with online accounts such as through the NHS App will be able to read new entries in their health record. This applies to patients whose practices use SystmOne. Arrangements with practices which use Vision as the clinical system are under discussion. From April 2022, the GPIT system configuration is being changed so that existing online users have access to their future or prospective, health information entered after this change is made. New online users set up after this date will also receive this level of access by default.
