Tips to lower your cholesterol

What is High Cholesterol ?
* High cholesterol is when you have too much of a fatty substance called cholesterol in your blood.
* It's mainly caused by eating fatty food, not exercising enough, being overweight, smoking and drinking alcohol. It can also run in families.
* You can lower your cholesterol by eating healthily and getting more exercise. Some people also need to take medicine.
* Too much cholesterol can block your blood vessels. It makes you more likely to have heart problems or a stroke.
* High cholesterol does not usually cause symptoms. You can only find out if you have it from a blood test.

Lung Health Checks

Lung Health Checks

NHS Targeted Lung Health Checks (TLHC) are being offered in Scunthorpe from October. The TLHC programme aims to help diagnose lung cancer and other respiratory diseases at an earlier stage, when treatment may be simpler and more successful. Detecting more cancers early is a key element within the NHS Long Term Plan, with an ambition that 55,000 more people each year will survive their cancer for at least five years by 2028. The Lung Health Check service launched in Humber and North Yorkshire in January 2020 and has since welcomed over 20,000 participants. Lung health checks have helped to identify cancer and a number of respiratory diseases at an early stage and provided opportunities for earlier treatment that has saved lives.

Eligible participants will receive a letter from their GP inviting them to take part in a telephone assessment with a specialist respiratory nurse. Telephone assessments will take place from October. Those with a high-risk score will be invited to attend a low dose CT scan within two weeks of their initial appointment, which will take place on board a mobile unit based at Brumby Hall, Centenary Way, Scunthorpe.

No Mind Left Behind - MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK

Every year, 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem.

But too many of us aren’t getting the help we need.

Over 2 million people are waiting for NHS mental health services, and since 2017 the number of young people struggling with their mental health has nearly doubled.

111 Advice

Winter is the busiest time for your local NHS, who want to give everyone the best care possible. If you need urgent medical help, call 111 or go online to 111.nhs.uk.
This will help to reduce the pressure on all NHS services, and you could be treated sooner than if you attended your local A&E.
In serious or life-threatening emergencies, you should still use 999. But in all other instances your first call should be 111.

Important information for patients currently on hospital waiting lists

Important information for patients currently on hospital waiting lists

The NHS has been working hard to address the backlogs built up during the COVID pandemic. As part of these plans, the NHS will be proactively contacting patients who have been waiting a long time for NHS funded treatment to remind them of their right to request to move to an alternative hospital where they may be seen quicker.

From Tuesday 31st October new digital portal called the Patient Initiated Digital Mutual Aid System (PIDMAS) will be introduced. Patients who have been waiting 40 weeks or more can use this portal to request an alternative choice of hospital.

Any patient who is eligible will receive either a SMS text message or a letter from their current hospital explaining how to request to choose a different hospital.

Please do not contact the practice regarding this process as we have no information regarding individual patients.

The hospital will contact you if you are eligible. Please do not contact them either.

Further information about alternative choice is available on hospital websites.

Access to patient records through the NHS App

From April 2022, patients with online accounts such as through the NHS App will be able to read new entries in their health record. This applies to patients whose practices use SystmOne. Arrangements with practices which use Vision as the clinical system are under discussion. From April 2022, the GPIT system configuration is being changed so that existing online users have access to their future or prospective, health information entered after this change is made. New online users set up after this date will also receive this level of access by default.
